A Note From The Artistic Directors:
These days it seems especially important for the arts to be a powerful tool for building bridges and understanding. With this in mind, our 2017 season is a celebration of vitality and diversity in the world of classical music today.
The season begins with "Ieva, Death and the Maiden"
, as we welcome the sensational Lithuanian pianist Ieva Jokubaviciute
in her festival debut on July 14. The Naumburg competition winner will give her rendition of a cornerstone of the Romantic piano repertoire, Robert Schumann's "Fantasy"
. The award-winning Avalon String Quartet
will also be making their festival debut with Franz Schubert's dramatic masterpiece "Death and the Maiden"
On July 16, we're excited to join our guest artists in two works of contrasting moods. With Ieva we'll explore Beethoven's introspective and gentle piano trio, "Op. 70 No. 2 in E flat major"
. In the second half, we'll dive into Tchaikovsky's "Souvenir de Florence"
, a perennial audience favorite for its exuberance and energy.
You may find yourself dancing in your seat (or the aisles!) as you listen to an unusual combination of instruments in a full program of music from Central and South America on July 21. In the third formal concert of the festival, the thrilling trio Chalaca
will be our guest artists. Chalaca is comprised of three phenomenal artists: returning harpist Bridget Kibbey
, Grammy nominated clarinetist Benito Meza
, and celebrated percussionist Samuel Torres
. In the season finale on July 23, we're looking forward to joining Benito in one of the most celebrated works for wind instrument and strings, Mozart's "Clarinet Quintet"
. Benito and Samuel will close out the program in style with original arrangements for their two instruments.
If you enjoy comfort food and a less formal atmosphere set against the scenic beauty at Bristol Harbour Resort, join us at the popular Classical Blue Jeans
event on July 19. We'll be playing a variety of light music along with Chalaca. Don’t forget to bring the whole family to our free Family Concert at Wood Library
on on July 20th!
We owe our thanks to you, our patrons and audience, for the continuing success and growth of Canandaigua LakeMusic Festival
. Along with making music alongside artists of the highest caliber, we enjoy getting to know our expanding festival family each year. We hope to see you frequently this summer!
